STH Stormwatch (Updates) : The well marked low pressure area concentrates into a depression

Yesterday's well marked low has concentrated into a depression situated approx 240km SSE of Chennai. The system is likely to move NNW during next 12 hours and northwards thereafter along north Tamil Nadu and south Coastal Andhra Pradesh coast and likely to further intensify into a Deep Depression during next 48hrs - IMD
Update1 (All India Weather Inference of IMD- Evening).
The system is likely to move NNW towards north Tamil Nadu­/south Andhra Pradesh coast and further intensify into a deep depression during next 24 hours.
The system is likely to be close to Chennai during morning hours of 18May. It will move northwards and then recurve NNE and may intensify into a cyclonic storm during subsequent 24 hours.

STH Stormwatch : Update on Cyclone Komen (30Jul2015 - Night)

Excerpt from "All India Weather Inference" (2030hrs IST)
"The cyclonic storm 'KOMEN' over northeast Bay of Bengal moved northwestwards and lay centred at 1730 hours IST of today, the 30th July, 2015 close to Bangladesh coast near Lat. 22.4 °N and Long. 91.3° E, about 20 km east of Hatia (Bangladesh).
The cyclonic storm is in the process of crossing Bangladesh coast between Hatia and Sandwip (Bangladesh) as the northern part of the cloud band already lies over land, The entire process of landfall would take a few hours.
After landfall, it would move initially northwestwards and then west­ northwestwards and weaken gradually."

STH stormwatch (12Jun2013) : Reporting a low pressure area in the Bay of Bengal

"Under the influence of upper air cyclonic circulation over northwest Bay of Bengal, a low pressure area has formed over northwest Bay of Bengal and associated cyclonic circulation extends upto mid­ tropospheric levels tilting southwestwards with height."

STH stormwatch is a procedure started many years ago where we use broadband internet to keep a close watch on the adverse weather activities in the Bay of Bengal with a view to forewarn communities on the formation of any adverse weather in the Bay and its movement.
