I am not sure that it was Anderson bridge but my late mother and I had spent a night in a Teesta village just after crossing a bridge on the way home from Singtam, where we had been to visit my mother's uncle. It was Dashain time in October 1968 and it looked like we would be stranded there for an unknown period of time because most of the taxi services were not running.

However, it was as if the Gods were looking after us. A group of Nuns were on their way back to St. Mary's Bustee in Kurseong, who had a reserved taxi and offered us a lift home. Fortunately for us and unfortunately for all the lives that were lost in the village where we stayed, the following day disaster struck in the form of a major rainfall and massive landslide all over the Darjeeling hills. I witnessed all this at first hand and am very aware of the devastating damage that such natural disaster can cause to humans and environment.

I wish Praful bhai all the very best in his noble efforts to bring awareness and preventative solutions for future generations and shall support him in every way I possibly can.
